There are two types of Wireless Network
Ad Hoc wireless networks are peer-to-peer, consisting of wireless network adapters connected to each PC on the wireless network. Ad Hoc wireless networks do not possess a central access point so the computer connected to your USB modem has to be "powered on" to enable all the other computers to also use the wireless network.
Infrastructure Wireless networks consist of wireless network adapters connected to each PC, communicating with a central access point. The access point acts as the network hub so no computer needs to be always powered on for any other computer to use the network. You can connect from 1 up to 15 computers on a Infrastructure network using a Wireless Access Point.
Sharing the Internet
Wireless networking products enable you to share files, printers, and other peripherals immediately out of the box as well as provide wireless internet connectivity. In order to share the Internet on multiple PCs, the device connecting PCs to the Internet must be equipped with the ability to share different bits of information between different PCs and the Internet.
